From passion to print

Caullett Comics started in October 2024, with its first official release in January 2025—but for its founder, RJ Caullett, the journey began long before that. “I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember,” RJ says, reflecting on a childhood shaped by superheroes and shows like Smallville. Even in elementary school, he was already creating his own heroes. What is now known as Rogue Hero originally started as “Super R,” inspired by characters like Superman.

As RJ got older, that passion only grew. In high school, he and his friend Quinten began developing a full movie script based on the idea. “We were getting close to finishing it, and then COVID hit,” he explains. The project stalled, but the vision didn’t. He explored turning it into a cartoon before eventually realizing comics were the best way to bring the story to life. Years later, after life had gotten busy, RJ picked up the pencil again with a renewed drive to finally finish what he started. That’s when Rogue Hero was reborn—reimagined, refined, and ready to be shared.

After publishing his first issue, RJ didn’t stop at going digital. “Online wasn’t enough for me,” he says. He printed 50 physical copies and went door-to-door to local comic shops, determined to get his book on shelves. That persistence paid off, landing Rogue Hero in multiple stores—an achievement he considers one of his proudest moments.

Not long after, Caullett Comics began to expand. Teaming up with his brother Uriah Caullett, RJ developed Jack Lightning, marking the start of collaborating with and commissioning other artists. “That’s when it became more than just me,” he says. “I wanted to build something that could help other artists and storytellers bring their ideas to life too.”

Now, as the owner, writer, editor, and artist behind Caullett Comics, RJ’s mission is clear: to grow the company into a platform for independent creators while continuing to tell powerful, character-driven stories. The journey hasn’t been easy—balancing sales, budgeting, and marketing has been a constant challenge—but it’s all part of building something real from the ground up. “I just want to keep growing Caullett Comics,” RJ says, “and help other creators get their work out there and into shops.”
